Cabin Fever
7 weeks of various activities on Saturday afternoons.
Activities include:
- Ice Fishing and scavenger hunt in the woods
- Archery at On Target Outfitters Canfield (transportation provided, families welcome)
- Ohio game and furbearer study
- Creating/enhancing deer habitat
- photo scavenger hunt at Bass Pro Shop or Cabelas
- Fishing review and cold weather fishing at Tyrrell Woods
- Special build project
Mentored Fishing Club - Tournament
Our mentored fishing club tournament is for the older more experienced students.
In addition to fishing at Tyrrell Pond, we will fish at other locations. Students will also learn the differences of the various poles, reels, lines, baits, knots and lures.
All students and families will be invited to join a trip to Lake Erie in July for a walleye and/or perch fishing charter on a 15 person head boat.
Most days will be catch and release. Each week there will be a different tournament with daily prizes as well as a winner for points total for the year. Tournaments will include; bluegill, bass, Lake Erie walleye, West Branch crappie and others. We will learn to fillet, scale and cook our catch one of the fishing days.
Fishing club tournament will meet the 2nd Thursday of each month. Due to the high demand for this club, we ask that students only sign up for one fishing club…101 or tournament.
Mentored Hunting Club
The mentored hunting club is a program that will generally meet 1-2 times per month as a group and other days of the year in hunting opportunities with adult leaders.
Goals are to:
• To help students learn the skills to be successful in the field.
• To help students understand their role as a hunter-conservationist.
• To help students develop a respect for landowners, other hunters and the game they pursue.
• To instill in students an understanding of ethics and values.
• To instill in students a sense of gratitude to the Creator for the creation they get to enjoy.
• To develop in students the attitude and ability to represent and advocate for the sport of
hunting.
This will include classroom, archery and rifle range, in field and in kitchen/field dressing activities. The club will experience different types of hunting as well as preparation for the hunts, including scouting, setting stands, trail cameras and gear readiness.
First year students will have opportunities to hunt small game. Some students will have the opportunity to hunt whitetail deer, turkey and predators as well.

All fishing in our pond is catch and release: Once a fish is caught, take as many photos as you would like, give it a kiss for good luck and then set it free back into the pond for others to enjoy.
-We ask that all children be accompanied by an adult: Please do not leave your children unattended at the pond.
-We ask that all adults be accompanied by children: It is a family fishing pond after all!
-Please do not swim with the fish!
Archery 201 Clinic
Archery 201 is designed to expand students’ interest in the fun sport of archery. Students who have participated in previous archery camps and have been introduced to the basics of archery and want to learn and experience more.
Form, technique and fun are the key principles of this camp. We will shoot for lots of prizes, pop hundreds of balloons and even hunt a mystery 3D target. Families are welcome to join the shooting the last hour each day.
Clinic is from 5:30-8:30 on June 17 and June 19.

Hunting, Conservation, ODNR Hunter Safety
The first 2 days of camp (July 7-8 5:30pm-8:30 pm) will include in the field/range and classroom instruction and application of :
- Archery training with compound and crossbow
- Tree Stand Safety
- Hunting/gun/bow Safety
- Hunter Ethics and Conservation
- 22 and skeet shooting stations
The last 2 days will be ODNR classroom and examination, passing students will receive hunter safety certificate. (July 10th 5:30pm-9:00pm, Saturday July 11th 10am-5pm)
1st Step Riflery
Are you interested in learning to shoot a rifle? Well First Step Riflery is the camp for you! In this camp, students will get to learn about gun safety and basics of safe gun handling, and develop marksmanship skills using quality air rifles. After demonstrating proficiency with air rifles, students may be transitioned to .22 rifles to further develop their sills. This camp will be much more than just shooting holes in paper as there will be lots of really fun games, a variety of targets, and challenging activities.
Wilderness Skills Camp Out
Students will incorporate several wilderness skills.
Tracking, navigation, fishing, creek exploring, cooking over a campfire, shelter/tent building and more.
Camp will include an overnight tent camping experience.

Next Level Archery
This camp, a step up from Archery 101, will focus on further developing skills. In this camp, archers will be introduced to new games that will challenge and strengthen their skills with a focus on consistency.
They will shoot further distances, have some friendly competitions, and win lots of prizes! This camp is for students who have completed an Archery 101 camp, after school program or other archery program with On Target Outfitters.
Wilderness Skills Camp Out
Students will incorporate several wilderness skills.
Tracking, navigation, fishing, creek exploring, cooking over a campfire, shelter/tent building and more.
Camp will include an overnight tent camping experience.
Mentored Trapping Club
This winter we will be offering a mentored trapping program at On Target Portage. The main target furbearer is raccoons, although we will be trapping muskrat, mink, fox and coyote. We likely will catch skunks, opossums, woodchucks and probably a squirrel or two. All programs will include field time at Tyrrell Woods as well as cabin time with a devotional.
Additional dates are possible ar other locations...We are looking for other local areas to trap.
Exact dates and times will depend on weather and trapping results
*December 15 1:00-5:00 scouting and setting raccoon and muskrat traps at Tyrrell Woods.
*December 21 10:00-2:00 checking traps and skinning and fleshing if any caught.
*December 22 Time TBD. setting fox and coyote traps and snares
*December 23 Time TBD. checking traps, scouting new area, tanning
*December 27,28,29,30 (dates and times TBD) fleshing and tanning. hopefully starting some coon skin caps
*January 2, hopefully starting some coon skin caps, or beaver mittens
*We anticipate 2-4 additional dates in January as well.
To be in the program they would need to have a warm winter coat, hat and gloves and a tall set of rubber boots. Hip or chest waders would be beneficial, but not required.
The cost for the program is $20. Traps, baits, lures, salt, home tanning solution is included for 3 animals and materials for a coon skin cap per student. If you would like to have additional animals home tanned, or sent to a tannery for a much higher quality tan, that would be additional costs.
